1. Who We Are

OwlyFinds ("we", "us", "our") is a UK-based tech price comparison service operated at owlyfinds.co.uk. OwlyFinds is a trading name of Dmytro Tereshchenko, who is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. We are not a retailer. We provide links to third-party retailers where you can purchase products.

2. What Data We Collect

We collect the following personal data:

• Account data: name and email address when you register for an account.
• Search history: product URLs you search, stored against your account to power the "Recent Searches" feature.
• Usage data: pages visited, browser type, and approximate location (country-level) via server logs and analytics.
• Cookies: we use essential cookies for session management and security. No analytics or tracking cookies are set.

3. How We Use Your Data

We use your data to:

• Provide and improve the OwlyFinds service.
• Display your recent search history when you are logged in.
• Send transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset).
• Understand how the site is used via aggregated, anonymised analytics.
• Comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

4. Analytics

Our analytics are first-party and cookieless. We run no third-party analytics scripts: no Google Analytics, no advertising pixels, no cross-site trackers.

What we record:

• The page path you visited (for example /resolve or /privacy), never the query string, so the retailer URL you paste is not recorded.
• The name of the event, such as a search being submitted, results being shown, or an offer link being clicked.
• Counts and small non-identifying details: number of offers, retailer IDs, error codes, whether a result came from cache.
• A random session ID generated per browser tab and held in sessionStorage. It is not a cookie, it is not linked to your account, and it disappears when you close the tab.

No IP address is stored with analytics events. Analytics data is aggregated and used only to see which parts of the service work and which are failing.

5. Bug Reports and Screenshots

If you use the feedback button or a "Wrong price?" link, we store the report so we can fix the problem.

A report contains:

• Your message.
• The page you were on and, where relevant, the product and offer you were looking at.
• Technical details about your browser: user agent string, viewport size, display theme, page language, referring page, and the last error the site showed you.
• An email address, only if you choose to add one, so we can reply.
• A screenshot, only if you attach one.

Screenshots may contain personal information, so please crop out anything you would not want us to see before attaching. Screenshots are resized in your browser before upload and are deleted after 90 days. Reports themselves are deleted within 12 months.

Report text and screenshots may be processed by an AI provider (Anthropic) solely to summarise and categorise the report so we can prioritise fixes. They are not used for advertising or model training by us.

We also keep a one-way hash of your IP address against each report to prevent abuse of the feedback form. The raw IP address is not stored.

6. Price Alerts

If you create a price alert, we store the product, your target price, and the conditions you want watched, linked to your account. Your account email address is used only to email you about the alerts you have created, never for marketing.

You can pause or delete any alert at any time from your account page. Deleting your account deletes your alerts with it.

7. Third-Party Retailers

OwlyFinds links to third-party retailer websites. Retailer websites have their own privacy policies which govern how they handle your data once you leave our site. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those websites.

When you click through to eBay, the link passes through an affiliate network (the eBay Partner Network) on its way to the shop. That network may set its own cookie so the shop can tell it a sale came from OwlyFinds, under its own privacy policy. Links to the other shops go straight to the shop. We do not send the network your name, email address or account details.

8. Data Retention

Account data is retained for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account at any time from your account settings, which permanently removes your personal data from our systems. Search history is retained for 90 days then automatically purged. Bug report screenshots are deleted after 90 days and the reports themselves within 12 months.

9. Your Rights (UK GDPR)

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Correct inaccurate data.
• Request erasure of your data ("right to be forgotten").
• Restrict or object to processing.
• Data portability.

To exercise any of these rights, email info@owlyfinds.co.uk. We will respond within 30 days.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk. We would appreciate the chance to put things right first, so please contact us before you do.

10. Cookies

We use only essential cookies required for login sessions and security. These cookies do not track you for advertising or analytics purposes and cannot be disabled as they are necessary for the site to function.

You can manage or clear cookies in your browser settings at any time, but doing so may log you out of your account.

11. Security

We use industry-standard security measures including HTTPS encryption, hashed passwords (bcrypt), and JWT-based authentication. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your data.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes by email. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version.
