Amazon Renewed is Amazon's shelf for refurbished tech, and most of what is on it is sold by other businesses. We read Amazon's own Renewed and guarantee pages on 24/10/2026, then priced eight products on Amazon Renewed against Back Market and against new on the same day.

Is Amazon Renewed any good?

For the guarantee, yes: every Renewed item from a third-party seller is covered by Amazon's free one-year replacement or refund, and Amazon sets a battery minimum for each grade. For the price, usually not: on 24/10/2026 Back Market was cheaper than Amazon's featured Renewed offer on six of the eight products below.

Read at source on 24/10/2026. Amazon Renewed is the featured offer on each product's Renewed page, with the cheapest other Renewed seller on the same page in brackets. Back Market's price is its page's headline price, for the UK model with a physical SIM and eSIM where it offers both, read through a page reader as it showed us a security check. New is the cheapest new price in stock: eBay listings for the Pixels and iPhones (the Pixel 10 from a business seller with 14 days' returns, the others from private sellers or, for the iPhone 15 Pro, a business seller with 30 days' returns), Currys for the Xbox, Argos for the Galaxy.

The bracketed prices matter. On Amazon the featured offer is the one the Buy button takes you to, and on 24/10/2026 it was £100 above the cheapest Renewed seller on the same Pixel 9 page and £144 above it on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Open "Other sellers" before you buy.

Is Amazon Renewed cheaper than Back Market?

Sometimes. Of the 13 product pages on our site with both an Amazon Renewed and a Back Market price in stock on 24/10/2026, Amazon Renewed was cheaper on 3 and dearer on 10. Read at source the same day, its featured offer beat Back Market on the Pixel 10 Pro (£439 against £478) and the Galaxy S25 FE (£414 against £419.46), and lost on the other six, by £27 on the Xbox and by up to £147.40 on the Pixel 10.

Here is how the two compare on our pages now:

Amazon Renewed and Back Market, refurbishedChecked 07:30, 30/10/2026

Of 8 products with a refurbished price at both shops today, Amazon Renewed is cheaper on 1, Back Market on 7. 2 are in stock only at Back Market.

Retailer links may earn OwlyFinds a commission or a small fee per click. It never changes the order. How we make money

The likely reason is who sets the price. Renewed sellers price their own listings, and the featured offer is not always the cheapest one on the page. A fair comparison is grade for grade: what the grades mean, and Back Market vs Amazon Renewed side by side.

When does Amazon Renewed cost more than new?

When a new one is cheap on eBay. On 24/10/2026 Amazon's featured Renewed Pixel 10 was £521.40, against £425 new on eBay from a business seller, and £374 refurbished at Back Market. Its Pixel 9 (£399.99) and Pixel 10 Pro (£439) were within about £15 of new phones on eBay, both from private sellers. Across the 15 pages on our site with both an Amazon Renewed price and a new price that day, the median saving against new was £40.98, small for a used phone. When a refurbished saving is worth it.

What does the Amazon Renewed Guarantee cover?

From Amazon's help pages, read on 24/10/2026:

  • One year. A free replacement, or a refund if no replacement is available, if the product is faulty, defective or does not work as expected within a year of delivery. You claim through "Get Product Support" in Your Orders.
  • Third-party sellers. The guarantee backs Renewed products sold by other businesses. Renewed items Amazon sells itself are covered by its statutory warranty and returns policy instead.
  • Grades and batteries. Amazon sells Renewed in Premium, Excellent, Good and Acceptable. Every grade is fully functional, with at least 80% of the original battery life (90% for Premium), and accessories can be generic rather than the maker's. Amazon says refurbished phones are not guaranteed to stay waterproof.

Back Market's own product pages gave a 12-month seller warranty and free 30-day returns on every product above on 24/10/2026, plus a Quality Assurance Fee at checkout. So on cover the two are close; the difference is that Amazon gives its own guarantee on a third-party seller's item, while Back Market's 12 months is the seller's warranty, under what its pages call the Back Market Promise. Who is actually selling?

Mostly not Amazon. On 24/10/2026 the featured Renewed offers above came from Tech-Tiger (Pixel 9), Dig 'n Delve (Pixel 10), RefindTech (iPhone 15 Pro Max), New Fone House (iPhone 15 Pro), ESLUK Store (iPhone 15), Starks Industries (Xbox), Meelie Mobile (Pixel 10 Pro) and brightgadget (Galaxy S25 FE). musicMagpie also sells through Amazon Renewed: it had the Pixel 10 at £479.99 and the iPhone 15 Pro Max at £489.99 on the same pages, both under the featured offer.

Amazon Resale is something else. It is Amazon selling used items under used conditions such as "Used: Very Good", not the Renewed grades: on 24/10/2026 the Galaxy S25 FE's new listing carried an Amazon Resale offer at £513.13, graded Used, Very Good. Those offers sit on a product's ordinary page, are sold by Amazon, and are not Amazon Renewed products, so read which one you are buying.

What to do

  1. Compare Amazon's featured Renewed price with "Other sellers" on the same page; the cheapest Renewed seller can be £100 or more lower.
  2. Check Back Market and the new price on the same day; our product pages show all three side by side.
  3. Read the grade and the seller. Renewed Premium promises the best battery; Acceptable allows visible scratches.
  4. Keep the one-year Renewed Guarantee in mind for a third-party seller: claim through Your Orders if the item fails.
