Currys Clearance on eBay: what it sells, what the grades mean, and is it cheaper than Currys?

The cheapest eBay listing for a phone is often a private seller taking no returns. Currys Clearance is the other kind of eBay seller: a shop's own outlet, with a warranty and returns written on every listing. On 29/10/2026 we read its store page and business details, its listing descriptions for each refurbished grade, eBay's Money Back Guarantee page, eight of its listings for products we compare, and Currys' own price for the same products the same day.

What is Currys Clearance on eBay?

It is Currys selling under its own name. The store's About tab names the business as Currys Group Limited, at Long Hollow Way, Newark, Nottinghamshire, NG24 2NH, with VAT number GB 226659933, and gives the seller's eBay username as currys_clearance. On 29/10/2026 it had been a member since 9 April 2019, with 99.1% positive feedback, a feedback score of 169,265, 529,000 items sold and 138,000 followers. Its blurb lists laptops, tablets, printing, photography and home appliances, "new and refurbished products available", and every listing we opened carried free delivery in two to three days and 30 days' returns with the seller paying the return postage.

The Newark address matters: it is Currys' returns and refurbishment centre, so the stock is what came back to Currys, was opened in a store, or arrived with a damaged box, graded and relisted. It is not a third party trading on the Currys name, and the eBay username is the one to check, because other business sellers list the same phones in the same grades.

What does it sell, and what do its grades mean?

Phones, tablets, laptops, watches, headphones, small appliances and games, in four conditions as eBay labels them. On 29/10/2026 it had no PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series console at all, only games and controllers, and no Galaxy S24 or S25, so a reader after a console or a Samsung phone will find the shops' other outlets more use. What it did have in numbers was Apple: iPhones from the 14 to the 17, iPad Air and iPad Pro, and an Apple Watch Ultra 3.

The condition on each listing comes from eBay's list, and Currys Clearance adds its own grade to the title. Its listing descriptions, read on 29/10/2026, define them:

• REFURB-A, shown as "Excellent - Refurbished": pre-owned, in excellent condition, fully tested and fully functional.
• REFURB-B, shown as "Very Good - Refurbished": pre-owned with more noticeable flaws, scratches or chips that do not affect how it works.
• REFURB-C, shown as "Good - Refurbished": noticeable cosmetic issues and significant signs of wear, possibly with missing or non-original parts such as screw covers or rubber feet, and fully operational.
• "Opened – never used": new stock whose box was opened, often marked BOX DAMAGE in the title, priced close to new.
• "Brand new" and "Pre-owned": sealed stock, and used stock with no grade.

Three things apply to every refurbished grade. The item comes in plain packaging without the maker's manual, it may have been repaired with third-party parts, and it carries a 12-month Currys Clearance warranty from the date of purchase, which Currys says is not transferable. Each refurbished listing also says "THIS ITEM IS SELLER REFURBISHED", which is honest: Apple did not do the work, Currys did. On our pages a listing in any of the three grades appears in the refurbished section, an "Opened – never used" listing goes to its own open box section after refurbished, and a "Pre-owned" listing is not shown at all. For what the words mean across shops, see refurbished phone grades explained.

What about returns and warranty?

Two layers. The first is eBay's Money Back Guarantee, which eBay's policy page, read on 29/10/2026, says covers anything bought on eBay.co.uk and paid at eBay's checkout for 30 days from the estimated or actual delivery date: a full refund including postage if the item does not arrive, and a return for a full refund if it arrives faulty, damaged or not as described. It is, in eBay's words, "not a product warranty", and you lose it if you ask your card provider to settle the same purchase. The table in is it safe to buy tech on eBay? has the full terms.

The second is the seller's own. Currys Clearance accepts returns for 30 days and pays the return postage, which covers a change of mind as well as a fault, where many private sellers accept no returns at all. After that, the 12-month Currys Clearance warranty on refurbished items covers faults, and eBay's own refurbished programme adds that the guarantee is "provided by the seller, UK only". Your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 apply on top, as with any UK business seller.

Is Currys Clearance cheaper than Currys?

For a refurbished phone, by a long way, which is the point of buying refurbished. For an opened box, by less than 5%. And on one phone Currys' own refurbished stock was cheaper than its eBay outlet.

Currys Clearance's prices are the listed prices read on each eBay listing on 29/10/2026, before any eBay coupon (a 20% code ran on its listings that week, capped at £75). Currys' prices read on its product pages the same day. The other shops' prices are the rows on our product pages that day: the eBay rows read at source, Back Market and John Lewis from our reads of their pages that morning and afternoon. Every Currys Clearance listing carried free delivery.

Two patterns. The refurbished grades are where the saving is: £176.70 to £306.49 under new at Currys on the three current iPhones, though a rival refurbisher or another eBay business seller was cheaper still on every one of them, by £62 to £93. The opened boxes are priced as nearly new, within £45 of Currys' own new price, which is a fair price for a sealed phone with a torn box and a full warranty, and no bargain. And compare the outlet with Currys' own refurbished shelf: on 29/10/2026 Currys sold a Good iPhone 14 128GB on currys.co.uk for £359 while its eBay outlet asked £416.88 for the same grade.

On that page the refurbished eBay row is Currys Clearance's own listing. On most of our pages it is not: the eBay row is whichever listing passed our checks at the lowest price, and on 29/10/2026 the refurbished iPhone 16e row was Argos's eBay outlet at £458.24 in Very Good, and the iPhone 16 row a business seller called Cheapest Electrical at £479.49. Here is eBay against Currys on six products both had new that day, from the last prices we read; the eBay side is the cheapest new listing on each page, almost always a seller other than Currys Clearance:

When is a private seller cheaper still, and what do you give up?

Often, and quite a lot. On 29/10/2026 the cheapest new iPhone 15 Plus 128GB on our page was £506.50 from a private seller in Salford with 134 ratings and no returns accepted, against Currys Clearance's cheapest iPhone of that generation, a Good iPhone 15 128GB at £392.51 with 30 days' returns and a year's warranty. The cheapest Sony WH-1000XM6 was £290.86 plus £5.80 postage from a private seller in Romford, again with no returns, against £349 at Amazon. A private seller's listing is covered by eBay's Money Back Guarantee for 30 days if it does not arrive or is not as described, and by nothing after that: no returns for a change of mind, no warranty when the battery fails in month four, and no business to take a Consumer Rights Act claim to. Is eBay cheaper than Amazon and the shops? counted 74 products on 24/10/2026 and found six of the eight biggest eBay savings came from private sellers.

So the choice is not eBay against the shops. It is three kinds of eBay seller: a shop's outlet like Currys Clearance or Argos, with a warranty and free returns; a business refurbisher, usually with 30 to 60 days' returns and its own warranty; and a private seller, with the lowest price and the least behind it. If you are set on the lowest price, see what Currys will do first: does Currys price match? explains that it matches other UK retailers but not marketplace sellers, so an eBay price will not move Currys.

How OwlyFinds shows eBay listings

Every eBay row on our pages is the cheapest fixed-price listing that passed our checks in its condition: no auctions, a seller with at least 50 ratings and 98% positive feedback, UK delivery, no damage, fault or lock words in the title, no listings that send you to the description, no parts or repair kits, one model and one capacity per title, a price neither too low nor too high to be the product, nothing out of line with the other prices in that condition, and a cheap new phone only from a seller with 500 or more ratings. The condition stays as the seller listed it: New counts as new, Excellent, Very Good and Good - Refurbished count as refurbished, and "Opened – never used" sits in its own open box section, out of the lowest price, the head-to-head tables and price alerts. A used listing never sets a page's lowest price. Every row shows when we last read it, and a row we have not read for seven days shows "Check price" instead of a figure.

We do not read the seller's name when we pick a row, which is why a Currys Clearance listing is on some of our pages and not others, and we do not follow our own eBay links when we check a price, so a check never counts as a click. eBay pays us a commission through the eBay Partner Network when a purchase follows a click from our pages, as the affiliate disclosure says; it does not change which listing we show or the order of the prices.

What to do

1. Search eBay for the product and sort by price, then look for the seller's name before the price: currys_clearance is the outlet, and its listings say Currys Clearance in the title and REFURB-A, B or C for the grade.
2. Buy the grade, not the picture. Good - Refurbished means significant wear and possibly a non-original part; Excellent means little or none. The warranty is the same 12 months on all three.
3. Compare with the refurbishers and with Currys' own refurbished shelf on the day: on 29/10/2026 Back Market and other eBay business sellers undercut Currys Clearance on every current iPhone, and Currys itself undercut it on the iPhone 14.
4. Treat an opened box as a new phone with a torn box, priced within £45 of new. If you want new, Currys' own price is a few pounds more with the same warranty and a sealed box.
5. Pay through eBay's checkout, keep the listing page, and test everything in the first 30 days while both the Money Back Guarantee and the seller's returns are open.
