PS5 prices in the UK: what each console costs now

Sony sells three PS5 consoles in the UK: the PS5 with a disc drive, the PS5 Digital Edition without one, and the PS5 Pro. Below is what each cost on 05/10/2026 at Sony and at the shops we compare, new and refurbished, then what the price has done and which one to buy. The short version: the big shops charge Sony's price or 99p under it, and the cheapest ways to a new or nearly new PS5 that day were on Sony's own store.

How much does a PS5 cost in the UK?

Sony's own prices since 02/04/2026 are £569.99 for the PS5 with a disc drive, £519.99 for the PS5 Digital Edition and £789.99 for the PS5 Pro (PlayStation Blog, 27/03/2026). The cheapest new console on our pages on 05/10/2026 was the Digital Edition at £519 at Currys, 99p under Sony.

Read on Sony's UK store and on each shop's own pages on 05/10/2026. John Lewis listed the PS5 with disc drive at £569.99 and the Pro at £789.99, both out of stock online. Currys had the disc console for store collection only, with delivery not available. Sony's Certified Refurbished consoles are the slim models and carry Sony's 12-month warranty. The eBay consoles came from business sellers with 30 days' returns; two of the listings offered a 10% coupon, which took the Digital Edition to £510.38 and the Pro to £854.99. Every new PS5 Sony sells today is the slimmer model it calls the "model group - slim", so a "PS5 Slim" and a PS5 bought new are the same console.

Is the PS5 cheaper at Currys, Argos, Amazon or John Lewis than at Sony?

By 99p at Currys, and not at all elsewhere. On 05/10/2026 Currys charged £569, £519 and £789 for the three consoles, 99p under Sony each time, though it limited the Pro to one per customer and had the disc console for store collection only. Argos charged Sony's price for all three, with collection or delivery. John Lewis charged Sony's price too, but had only the Digital Edition in stock online, with its two-year guarantee included. Amazon's page for the PS5 with disc drive had no offer at all that day, from Amazon or anyone else, and on 01/10/2026 it sold no new Pro or Digital Edition itself, only marketplace sellers.

The cheaper new consoles that day were bundles on Sony's own UK store. It listed the PS5 1TB with EA SPORTS FC 26 at £479.99 and the Digital Edition with FC 26 at £429.99, each £90 under the same console on its own, with the game as a voucher in the box. If you would play FC 26, or do not mind the voucher going unused, that is the cheapest new PS5 we found on 05/10/2026. Sony also listed a Digital Edition Fortnite bundle at £294.99, but marked it not available for purchase.

The cheapest new consoles on eBay that day cost more than Currys: £593.20 plus £11.76 postage for the disc model and £869.99 plus £9.99 for the Pro, both from private sellers taking no returns.

Will the PS5 price drop?

Nobody outside Sony knows, so here is what has happened rather than a forecast:

• Sony has raised prices, not cut them. The PS5 Pro launched in the UK at £699.99 on 07/11/2024. On 02/04/2026 Sony raised the recommended price of every PS5, the Pro to £789.99, citing "continued pressures in the global economic landscape".
• The big shops have held Sony's price. Currys, Argos and John Lewis charged Sony's price or 99p under it every time we read them, on 17/09/2026, 30/09/2026, 01/10/2026 and 05/10/2026.
• The discounts that exist are bundles. On 05/10/2026 Sony's own FC 26 bundles were £90 under the plain consoles.
• Black Friday falls on 27/11/2026, eight days after Grand Theft Auto VI comes out on 19/11/2026 (Rockstar's site, read 01/10/2026). A Black Friday discount is possible, but we have no shop figures to show one coming.

Here is the cheapest price we have seen each day for the PS5 with disc drive, new and refurbished together:

The line moves because single eBay and Amazon listings come and go, not because the shops changed their price. If the line is short, that is because we started tracking on 10/09/2026.

Is a refurbished PS5 worth it?

Only when it clearly costs less than a new one, and on 05/10/2026 that was true of Sony's own refurbished consoles and not of much else:

• Sony Certified Refurbished. The slim disc model at £479.99 and the Digital Edition at £429.99, each £89.01 under Currys's new price, with Sony's 12-month warranty. Sony says they may have minor cosmetic marks.
• eBay. The cheapest refurbished disc console was £529.95, graded Very Good, from a business seller with 30 days' returns and free delivery: £39.05 under Currys.
• musicMagpie on eBay. A slim Digital Edition graded Excellent was £567.09 with a 12-month warranty, £48.09 more than a new one at Currys, or £8.62 less with the 10% coupon on the listing.
• PS5 Pro. The cheapest refurbished Pro on eBay was £929.99, graded Excellent, £140.99 over a new one at Currys.

So a refurbished console is not always the cheaper one, as our PS5 vs PS5 Pro comparison also found. Check the model number before the price, too: the cheapest refurbished "PS5 Digital Edition" on our page on 05/10/2026, at £399.99, was the original 2020 console (model CFI-1016B), not the slim one. Slim consoles have model numbers starting CFI-20 or CFI-21. A cosmetic grade describes scuffs, not how well the console works: here is what the grades mean.

Which PS5 should you buy?

• PS5 Digital Edition, £519 at Currys. The cheapest, if you buy your games as downloads. It has 825GB of storage against 1TB in the disc model. Adding Sony's disc drive later costs £69.99 at Argos, which makes it £19.99 dearer than buying the disc model at Argos.
• PS5 with disc drive, £569 at Currys. For games you already own on disc or buy second hand. Sony's UK product page says that from January 2028 newly released PlayStation games will be sold in digital format only, though discs for earlier games keep working on this console.
• PS5 Pro, £789 at Currys. For a 4K TV and games marked PS5 Pro Enhanced. It has no disc drive, so add £69.99 if you play discs. Our PS5 vs PS5 Pro comparison covers what the Pro adds, and our stock check where to find one.
• A Sony FC 26 bundle. £479.99 with the disc drive or £429.99 without on 05/10/2026, if a football game in the box suits you.

The box shows our latest check of each shop, so it can trail a fast-moving listing: on 05/10/2026 the refurbished Pro it held at £859.99 was £929.99 on eBay itself. Open the listing before you count on a marketplace price.

What to do

1. Start with Sony's price: £569.99, £519.99 or £789.99. A shop at that price, or 99p under, is not marking it up.
2. Check Sony's bundles before buying a console on its own: on 05/10/2026 the FC 26 bundles were £90 cheaper.
3. Compare a refurbished console with Sony's own Certified Refurbished price and its 12-month warranty, and check the model number says CFI-20 or CFI-21.
4. Treat a new console above Sony's price as a marketplace premium, and read who is selling and what the returns are.
5. If you can wait, set a price alert on the product page and we will email you when it drops.
