GTA 6: which console should you buy in the UK, and what each costs today

Rockstar released the Grand Theft Auto VI launch trailer on 15/10/2026, five weeks before the game arrives. If you do not own a console yet, the question is which one to buy, and what it costs. We read Rockstar's, Sony's and Microsoft's own pages and the shops we compare on 15/10/2026.

Which consoles can play GTA 6?

The PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X and Series S, and nothing else at launch. Rockstar's GTA VI page and its launch trailer post, read on 15/10/2026, give the date as 19/11/2026 and the platforms as "PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S". Neither page mentions a PC version, so do not buy a PC for it.

That covers every model: the PS5 with a disc drive, the PS5 Digital Edition, the PS5 Pro, the Xbox Series X, its Digital Edition and the Series S.

Is GTA 6 better on the PS5 Pro?

Neither Rockstar nor Sony has said so. Rockstar's pages name the PlayStation 5 with no separate mention of the Pro. Sony's PlayStation Blog post of 24/06/2026 says the game will play best on PS5 through the DualSense controller's haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, its 3D audio and the console's fast SSD, and suggests picking up "a PS5 or PS5 Pro"; it does not say what the Pro adds for this game. Until one of them does, buy the Pro for what it does for every game, not for GTA 6 in particular. Our PS5 vs PS5 Pro comparison covers that.

Can the Xbox Series S run GTA 6?

Yes, by Rockstar's and Microsoft's own words. Rockstar lists "Xbox Series X|S", and Microsoft's Xbox Wire post of 25/06/2026 calls the Series S "the lowest-cost way for console players to enjoy the biggest hits this year", naming Grand Theft Auto VI among them. Neither has said how the game will look or run on the Series S against the Series X, so we will not guess.

Is there a PS5 GTA 6 bundle in the UK?

Not on 15/10/2026. Sony's UK store listed bundles with EA SPORTS FC 26, Fortnite and Marvel's Wolverine, but none with GTA VI, and Microsoft's UK console pages had none either. Argos and Currys sold the game on its own as a pre-order, £67.99 at Argos and £69.99 at Currys for either console, and both had Sony's GTA VI limited-edition DualSense controller on pre-order at £74.99. So budget for the console and the game separately: a PS5 with a disc drive and the game came to £637.98 at Argos that day.

What does each console cost today?

Read on each shop's own pages on 15/10/2026. Sony's prices are its Certified Refurbished consoles as listed on its UK store that day. Currys had the Series S at £519 with no delivery, and John Lewis had none of the three PS5s online. The eBay Series X came from a business seller with a one-year guarantee and 30 days' returns; the Amazon Renewed consoles from marketplace sellers.

The boxes show our latest check of each shop, so some rows had moved by the time we read them at source on 15/10/2026: the PS5 Pro's refurbished Back Market and eBay rows had sold out, as had the Series S's cheapest refurbished eBay row and the PS5's cheapest new eBay listing. Open a listing before you count on it. Which console should you buy for GTA 6?

• Cheapest new: the Xbox Series S 1TB, £519 at Amazon, or £499.99 from a business seller on eBay with 30 days' returns. Microsoft names GTA VI among the games it plays. It has no disc drive, so you buy the game as a download.
• Cheapest overall: a Sony Certified Refurbished PS5 Digital Edition, £429.99, with Sony's 12-month warranty and 1TB of storage. Also no disc drive.
• If you want the disc: the PS5 with a disc drive, £569 at Currys or £569.99 at Argos, or Sony's refurbished one at £479.99. You can then buy GTA VI on disc and sell it on later.
• The PS5 Pro, £789.99 at Argos, only if you want it for every game; nobody has said what it adds for GTA VI. Stock is thin: of Argos, Currys and John Lewis, only Argos had it on 15/10/2026.
• The Xbox Series X, from £669.90, if you prefer Xbox and want the disc drive and more power than the Series S.

What to do

1. Pick the console family first: GTA VI is on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only, with no PC version named by Rockstar.
2. Price the console and the game separately; on 15/10/2026 there was no GTA VI console bundle at Sony, Microsoft, Argos or Currys.
3. Check Sony's Certified Refurbished PS5s before buying new: £429.99 and £479.99 on 15/10/2026, with a 12-month warranty.
4. If you want a PS5 Pro, check Argos first, and do not pay a marketplace premium over Sony's £789.99.
5. Order before 19/11/2026 if you want to play on launch day, and set a price alert on the console's page in case it drops before then.
