John Lewis promises to match a lower price for a week after you order, as Currys does. The promise has more conditions than most people expect, and on the products we compare it rarely has anything to match. We read John Lewis's price promise and its terms on 20/10/2026, and checked its prices against Currys and Argos that day.
Does John Lewis price match?
Yes. John Lewis's price promise, read on 20/10/2026, matches the prices of 25 named retailers for up to 7 days after you order, and you can ask before you buy in one of its shops.
Of the shops we compare, its list names Currys, Argos, AO and Amazon. Amazon counts only for electricals that Amazon sells itself, such as tech, TV and audio, computing and gaming, and mobile phones. The other names on the list are mostly fashion, beauty, toy, home and department stores. John Lewis also refunds the difference if it cuts its own price within 7 days of your order.
What does John Lewis not price match?
From its price promise terms, read on 20/10/2026:
- Marketplace sellers. Only items sold by the retailer itself count. On Amazon, check that "Sold by" says Amazon.
- Apple products, unless Apple sells them. John Lewis matches an iPhone, iPad or AirPods only against Apple's own price, or against a named shop that gives at least a two-year guarantee as standard; it says none does.
- Refurbished and graded products. Its terms say "we do not price match refurbished, graded, modified or reconditioned products", nor products made for another country.
- Special prices. Clearance (reduced to clear, last chance to buy), multi-buy offers, member and loyalty prices, flash sales and countdown deals, voucher or discount codes, student prices, exclusive and trade prices, and obvious pricing errors.
- Anything not identical or not in stock. Same make, model, size, colour, version and specification, in stock online and ready for delivery at both shops. A compulsory delivery charge counts towards the price.
- Services. Installation, disposal and extended warranties are not matched.
Apple is the rule that matters most here. On 20/10/2026 Amazon sold the 128GB iPhone 16 itself at £749.84 against £799 at John Lewis, and the 512GB iPhone 17 at £1,049 against £1,099, and John Lewis would match neither.
How do you claim a John Lewis price match?
- Before you buy, in a shop: show staff a live link or a screenshot of the lower price, with everything above visible.
- Online, or after you buy: complete your order, then fill in the price promise form on John Lewis's website within 7 days of ordering. The 7 days run from the order, not from delivery or collection, so you can claim before the item arrives.
- Give proof: a screenshot or photo of the lower price, and your order details or receipt.
- Wait for the answer: John Lewis said on 20/10/2026 that it aims to reply within 48 hours and refunds the difference to your original payment method, which can take up to 5 days to reach your account. If you paid in a shop with cash, a gift card or a voucher, you collect the refund in a shop.
You cannot claim on an item you have returned or been refunded for.
Where is John Lewis cheaper, and where is Currys?
Nowhere by much. On 20/10/2026 John Lewis charged the same as Currys on six of seven products we compare and was 99p dearer on the Xbox Series S:

So on these products the price promise is a safety net, not a discount. It helps when another named shop cuts its price within 7 days of your order, and on products like the Xbox, where Currys and Amazon were both £519 against John Lewis's £519.99 on 20/10/2026. It does not help on the cheaper Apple prices at Amazon, or on Currys's refurbished iPhones and AirPods, which its terms leave out. It cannot help when John Lewis has nothing to sell: the PS5 Pro was out of stock there on 20/10/2026.

Is a John Lewis price match worth more than a lower price elsewhere?
Sometimes, for what comes with it. Each of the twelve John Lewis tech pages we read on 20/10/2026 listed a two-year guarantee as included, and the one we opened in full, the Pixel 10, also listed free standard delivery and free returns.
Its returns are stricter than they sound. You have 30 days, but the item must be unused and in its original packaging, and an item you have opened or unsealed, beyond what you need to inspect it, can only go back if it is faulty. For Christmas, anything bought between 01/10/2026 and 24/12/2026 can be returned until 23/01/2027 if it is unwanted or unsuitable (its returns page, read on 20/10/2026).
So if Amazon sells an iPhone £49 cheaper, the question is whether a second year of guarantee is worth £49 to you, because John Lewis will not close the gap. If Currys or Argos is cheaper on something John Lewis does match, you can have the lower price and John Lewis's guarantee together, within 7 days. What to do
- Compare first, on the exact model, size and colour, and note who is selling it.
- If Currys, Argos, AO or Amazon (sold by Amazon) is cheaper and you want John Lewis's guarantee, buy at John Lewis and claim within 7 days of ordering.
- For Apple products, check Apple's own price: it is the only one John Lewis matches.
- Do not expect a match on refurbished products, marketplace sellers or code-only prices.
